Kataka: A 13-year-old boy died after being swept away the Kathajodi River near Dhaurang area in Odisha’s Kataka district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Aryan Saha of Srikoruan village under the jurisdiction of Kataka Sadar Police Station. He was a Class VIII student of Gopalpur Maa Tarini Vidyapith School and the only son of his parents.
According to sources, Aryan and two of his friends had gone to the river to take a bath. After the three entered the river, they were swept away by the strong current of the swollen river.
A local youth, who witnessed the incident, immediately rushed to their rescue and managed to save two of the boys. However, Aryan could not be rescued in time and drowned in the river.
Family members later rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka, where doctors declared him dead.
After receiving information, a police team visited the spot, took custody of the body, and started an investigation into the incident.
