Bhubaneswar: In a freak mishap, a 13-year-old boy sustained critical injuries after falling onto an iron grill while trying to retrieve his school uniform from the rooftop of his house in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place in IRC Village of the capital city. The boy was identified as Sohan Digal, who hails from Kandhamal district.
Sources said Sohan lost his balance while reaching for his uniforms and fell on a sharp portion of the grill. Locals rushed to the site after hearing his screams for help.
Personnel from the Secretariat Fire Station were already in the area addressing damage caused by Kalbaisakhi storm that hit the city in the morning. The team members quickly responded and swiftly used cutting equipment to free the boy before rushing him to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for emergency treatment. The condition of the boy was stated to be critical.
AIIMS sources said the boy was shifted to the ICU of Pediatric Surgery after successful surgery. His condition was stated to be stable.
