Bhubaneswar: A total of 13,373 positions are lying vacant in the police department in Odisha, the state Assembly was informed on Monday.

Similarly, altogether 2416 home guard posts are lying vacant in the state, while 862 positions in jails and sub-jails are lying vacant, the Chief Minister informed the House.

Steps are being taken to fill up the vacant posts by making appointment through selection and promotion, he said.

The Chief Minister further stated that as many as 123 Maoists were killed in encounters while 11 security personnel lost their lives during clashes with the naxals.

This apart, 336 Maoists surrendered in the state from January 1, 2014 to November 15, 2024.

Majhi also stated that the state aims to be free of Maoist influence by 2026. To achieve this, anti-Maoist operations in Naxal-affected areas have been intensified. These operations are being coordinated with Central Security Forces (CSF), State Police and police from neighbouring Naxal-affected states.

The coordination between the State Intelligence Wing (SIW), the Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB), and intelligence agencies of neighbouring states has been improved. The activities of the Maoists are being closely monitored and operations are being strengthened based on intelligence reports.
