Bhubaneswar: Body of a 14-year-old boy, who went missing in Kuakhai River last evening while fishing with friends, was recovered in the early hours of Sunday after an extensive search operation through the night.
The deceased has been identified as Ashutosh, a class IX student and the only son of media person Linkan Swain of Satya Vihar in the city.
According to sources, Ashutosh had ventured to the riverbank with a group of friends for a fishing outing but failed to return home as evening fell. Growing anxious, his family launched a search and eventually lodged a missing person complaint at Mancheswar police station.
Following which, police began an investigation during which his bicycle was found near the house which led them to his friends, who informed that Ashutosh slipped and drowned in the river. His friends got scared and left the place with his bicycle. Fire Services personnel later launched a search operation and recovered his body from the river around 3 am.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.
