Bhopal: At least 15 people were killed in a bus accident on National Highway 30 in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa on Friday around 11.30 pm.
The bus, with around 100 people onboard, was on its way to Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur when it collided with a parked truck near Suhagi Pahari in Rewa late last night.
“Of the 40 injured, 20 have been admitted to a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. The bus was going from Hyderabad to Gorakhpur. All people on the bus are reportedly residents of UP,” Navneet Bhasin, SP Rewa, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
A few passersby spotted the accident and informed Sohagi police, who rushed to the site and rescued bleeding passengers trapped inside the bus. Police said around three to four people were trapped inside the bus’s cabin.
Ambulances were called and the injured were taken to the Teonthar civil hospital for treatment.
Navneet Bhasin, Rewa Superintendent of Police, said most of the people travelling in the bus were labourers from Uttar Pradesh, who had boarded the bus from Madhya Pradesh’s Katni. They had come to Katni from Hyderabad in a separate bus, officials said, adding that the group of labourers was heading home for Diwali, NDTV reported.
