Jharsuguda: A total of 1,570 people, including 839 males and 731 females, benefitted from a series of eye check-up camps organised by Odisha Power Generation Corporation Ltd (OPGC) from March 11 to 20 in Jharsuguda.
Conducted as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), the OPGC initiative provided 1,356 people with spectacles following the check-ups to help improve their vision and quality of life.
During the screening process, 114 patients diagnosed with cataracts underwent cataract surgery at Mahanadi Netra Chikitsalaya in Jharsuguda, with all expenses borne by OPGC.
The camps, across five peripheral gram panchayats under Lakhanpur block in Jharsuguda district, were held at Telenpali (March 11), Dalgaon (March 13), Tilia (March 15), Remenda (March 17) and Kumarbandh (March 20).
Anjana Ranjan Dash, OPGC’s Director (Operation), inaugurated the first camp at the gram panchayat office, Telenpali, in the presence of Sukanta Mohapatra, Senior Vice-President (Operation), Dr Sangita Panda, Chief Medical Officer, ITPS Hospital, Prafulla Dhal, Advisor-CSR, and other senior officials of OPGC.
The camps were conducted in collaboration with Care Netram, Bhubaneswar, with a dedicated medical team providing comprehensive eye screenings.
The focus was on identifying cataracts, vision impairments, and other eye-related conditions among rural residents.
