Malkangiri: As many as 16 child labourers were rescued by Childline officials from Kalimela in Malkangiri district on Wednesday.
The victims, including 14 girls, hail from Sandila village under Padia block in the district.

Sources said, the children (all between the age groups of 8 to 12 years) were rescued while they were boarding a bus near MV-90 to travel to Andhra Pradesh.

The children were later handed over to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) office.
In a separate incident, the Child Development Project Officials rescued a minor girl from getting married to one Ramachandra in Chaulamendi village of the district.
