New Delhi: Out of 78 Afghan evacuees who landed in India on Tuesday, 16 have tested positive. As a precaution, all 78 have been quarantined.
All 16 returnees, who have tested positive, are said to be asymptomatic.
India has been on war footing to evacuate its citizens as well as Afghan citizens fleeing their country. The situation in the country has been worsening after the Taliban’s complete sweep to power a week ago.
According to Union minister Hardeep Puri, a total of 626 people, including 228 Indian citizens, have been evacuated from Afghanistan till now. He said that 77 among them were Afghan Sikhs.
The number of Indian citizens rescued from Afghanistan does not include those working in the Indian Embassy, the minister added.
