17 Places Record 40 Deg Celsius As Temperature Dips In Many Parts Of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: While some parts of Odisha experienced some respite from the sweltering heatwave following thunderstorm activities, the maximum temperature soared past 40 degree Celsius in at least 17 places on Wednesday.

According to evening bulletin of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, at least 10 places in the state reeled under 42 degree Celsius on above on the day. Sonepur was the hottest place in the state with 44.1 degree Celsius.

Sonepur was followed closely by Sambalpur & Hirakud with 43.7 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda with 43.6 degree, Bhawanipatna with 43 degree, Boudh with 42.8 degree, Balangir and Titlagarh with 42.5, Bargarh with 42.2  and Balkangiri with 42 degree Celsius.

The mercury dropped considerably in state capital Bhubaneswar which recorded maximum temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius, while it was 35 degree in the millennium city of Cuttack.

The temperature in the state capital is unlikely to touch 40 degree Celsius during next 5 days, the IMD said in a forecast.

The MeT office has issued orange alert as severe heatwave warning for several districts of Odisha till June 18.

While the day temperature is likely to remain 4-6 degrees above normal in some districts of Odisha during next 5 days,  one or two places in Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sonepur and Balangir are likely to experience warmer nights for 2 days, the weather agency added.
