Berhampur: An 18-year-old youth lost his life after being electrocuted while helping set up a tent for a wedding in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The victim has been identified as Dinesh Nayak from Saranauti village in Surada Tehsil.
According to sources, Dinesh had travelled to Lalitpur village at Badagada to work at a wedding. While climbing a bamboo pole to erect the tent structure on Thursday night, he lost his balance and instinctively grabbed a nearby electric pole in a desperate attempt to steady himself. He suffered a severe electric shock after coming in contact with a live wire and collapsed immediately on the spot.
Bystanders at the wedding venue rushed the critically injured youth to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Badagada,, where he succumbed during treatment.
Badagada police have seized his body and sent it for postmortem. An investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death.
