Kandhamal: Police have arrested two local youths in connection with alleged kidnapping and rape attempt on a 14-year-old girl in the Belghar area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
Sushil Nayak (18) was arrested from Berhampur and forwarded to court on Tuesday and Nitesh Nayak was nabbed late in the night, Balipada SDPO Subham Bhonsle informed.
According to sources, the incident took place on Sunday morning when the girl was on way to a water body to take a bath and came to light the following morning when the Class VIII student returned home. The duo allegedly abducted the teenager and took her to the nearby dense forest, tied her hands, tore her clothes, and sexually assaulted her by taking turns. When the girl became unconscious, they fled, leaving her to fend for herself in the forest all through the night. They had even threatened to make the video of their act viral if she disclosed the incident.
On Tuesday, the survivor’s parents filed a complaint at Belghar police station on basis of which a case was registered under relevant sections of the BNS and POCSO Act, Her statement was recorded before a magistrate and she was sent to the hospital for a medical examination.
