Bhubaneswar: A youth, Suraj Tirth Chandan, from Odisha has been arrested for allegedly murdering his mother’s lover at Verla, a village in the Bardez sub-district of Goa, on May 15.
The 19-year-old fled the house after the alleged murder of Manoj Bag (30), also from Odisha. He then went to Vasco railway station, from where he proceeded to Odisha. He was nabbed from a relative’s house by Mapusa police, The Free Press Journal reported.
According to sources, Suraj’s mother abandoned him and his three siblings after the death of his father about four years ago. Bag brought her mother to Goa. Suraj visited her along with his elder sister, who was the only one to have known about their mother’s whereabouts, and found out about her alleged affair.
Both the accused and the victim slept in the rented room with others on the fateful night. Around 2.30, a family member woke up to go to the washroom and noticed blood splattered across the room. Bag was found in a pool of blood while Suraj was missing.
The family suspected the accused may have used his gardening tools to attack him since they were missing from the bag.
Suraj was later brought to Goa and remanded to seven-day police custody by a local court.
