Bhubaneswar: Heatwave condition prevailed across Odisha as maximum temperature shot up to 40 degree Celsius in as many as 5 places on Friday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Titlagarh, Balangir, Bhawanipatna, Boudh and Nayagarh recorded the maximum (day) temperature of 40 degree Celsius on the day. This was for the first time in this season that mercury went up to 40 degree in the state.
The temperature also crossed 39 degree in four places including Talcher with 39.8 degree Celsius, Phulbani 39.2, Angul and Jharsuguda 39.1, while Nabarangpur registered 39 degree.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded maximum temperature of 37.4 and 37.5 degree Celsius respectively.
Earlier in the day, the IMD had forecast that hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail in the state during the next 4-5 days.
The night temperature may also rise by 2-3°C during next 4-5 days at many places in the state.
