New Delhi: In a tit-for-tat move, the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Monday suspended consular and visa services.
“Due to unavoidable circumstances, all consular & visa services from the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi are temporarily suspended until further notice. Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted, the Bangladesh mission said, as reported by leading Bangladesh daily The Daily Star.
Two days ago, a group of people held a demonstration in front of the Bangladesh mission in New Delhi to protest against the brutal lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu, in Mymensingh.
Relations between India and Bangladesh, which have blown hot and cold since Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister following a students’ uprising and fled to India in August 2024, plummeted once again following the death of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi last week.
India earlier suspended visa services at the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Chattogram until further notice.
