2 Brothers Fight Over Mother’s Death Delaying Cremation In Odisha’s Balasore

Balasore: Two brothers entered into a fierce quarrel over the death of their mother at a village in Soro area of Odisha’s Balasore district.

Trouble erupted after one of the siblings alleged that the 90-year-old woman, identified as Malati Barik, had been murdered. Holding his younger brother responsible for her death, he lodged a complaint with the police and demanded a probe.

According to sources, the incident took place at Simulia under Balang Panchayat in Soro area of the district. As a result, the last rites could not be performed even 30 hours after the woman’s death.

Locals said the woman was staying with her younger son Gobinda Barik, while elder son Nandakishor Barik was living separately. Malati was critically injured after a fall. Gobinda and his wife rushed her to Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) where the doctors declared her dead.

After learning about the death of their mother, Nandakishor alleged that the woman had been murdered and lodged a complaint against Gobinda at Soro police station.

Acting on his complaint, the police seized the body for postmortem. However, following the dispute between the brothers, autopsy could not be conducted for more than 30 hours and the body is still lying in the hospital. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
