Bhubaneswar: Two persons died and as many were critically injured when the car in which they were travelling crashed into a truck after hitting a divider on NH-53 near Ladukhai under Burla police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district last night.
The deceased have been identified as Subrat Sahu and Manish Yadav. The injured, Saurabh Gupta and Akash, are undergoing treatment at VIMSAr, Burla.
According to sources, the accident took place when the four youths, all aged between 25 and 30, were en route to their native place Godbhaga from Sambalpur. The person behind the wheels reportedly lost control over the vehicle, which then hit a divider on the National Highway and flipped over before crashing into a truck coming from Bargarh. All four occupants were trapped inside the mangled remains of the car. Manish and Subrat died on the spot due to the severity of the collision.
The injured were rescued by locals, who then arranged for an ambulance to shift them to VIMSAR.
Police have begun an investigation into the accident, which preliminary investigation suggests occurred as the car was travelling at a dangerously high speed.
