Bhubaneswar: Two persons were detained by Maitri Vihar police in Bhubaneswar in connection with the abduction of a woman from the Lumbini Vihar area of the capital city two days ago.
The 24-year-old woman and her male friend were returning from their work place after night shift when four men targeted them. They abducted her after attacking her 26-year-old friend in the early hours of Monday.
A senior police official said that the car used by the kidnappers has been traced the car and all the four accused involved in the crime have been identified. Several places are being raided as part of efforts to arrest the accused persons.
While the identity of the abductors and motive behind the crime were still unclear, police sources indicated that the accused persons were known to the victim, whose ring ceremony was recently held. The accused were also stated to be familiar with the woman’s male friend, who sustained injuries after being attacked with a sharp weapon by the abductors.
The man, however, maintained that he does not know any of the abductors and that he had no previous enmity with anyone. .
He said both were retuning after night shift duty when his two-wheeler ran out of fuel at an isolated place in Lumbini Vihar. A car stopped near them and two men came out of the vehicle. They attacked the man with a sharp weapon, while two others forced the woman into the vehicle, he said, adding that he called the police and his elder brother.
