Mumbai: Even as Ranveer Singh enjoys the success of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, the controversy over his mimicry of Rishab Shetty from ‘Kantara’ refuses to die.

The actor informed the Karnataka High Court on Friday that he is willing to submit a revised affidavit of apology regarding his remarks related to the depiction of Goddess Chamundi in the film, Bar and Bench reported.

His counsel, senior advocate Sajan Poovayya, told Justice M Nagaprasanna that a new apology will be filed.

Ranveer also expressed regret over the incident, stating that he was unaware at the time that his comments could hurt sentiments.

Reading Ranveer’s apology affidavit, advocate Poovayya stated: “I have filed an affidavit of apology. And I have undertaken in that affidavit that I will visit the temple as well. (The affidavit states) on the date of the incident, even for a moment, I did not realise I offended the worshippers of the Daiva. I also want to clarify, I was raised in a Sindhi household in Mumbai and I was not aware of the sensitivities. I, through this affidavit, once again convey my deepest regret, and unconditional apology. I will be visiting the temple of the deity in due course to offer my prayers and express my devotion.”

Complainant Prashanth Methal argued that the affidavit did not convey genuine remorse, adding that Rishab had even signalled Ranveer on stage to refrain from the imitation.

Advocate Poovayya said he would coordinate with Methal to refine the wording of the apology and submit a revised version before the court.

Taking note of this, Justice M Nagaprasanna adjourned the matter until April 23.

The incident dates back to November 28, at the International Film Festival of India, where Ranveer mimicked Rishab twice on stage.

While praising his performance in ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’, Ranveer began imitating him, prompting Rishab to stand up and ask him to stop.

The actor reportedly repeated the act while greeting and hugging him, despite being asked not to do so again.

Ranveer had earlier issued a written apology addressing the matter, stating, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”
