Berhampur: Two persons from Ranchi in Jharkhand, who were allegedly kidnapped in Odisha’s Berhampur city two days back, were released after their families paid the ransom amount to the kidnappers.
According to the FIR filed by one of the victims, Naresh Sahu, a resident of the area under Upper Rutia police limits in Ranchi, he along with Krishna Kumar were on their way to his father-in-law’s house at Gunupur in his Maruti Dezire car when some miscreants stopped them near Khakipada under Digapahandi police station under Berhampur police district two days ago. The miscreants got into the car, beat up Naresh and Krishna severely and drove to different places.
“The kidnappers threatened us with some weapons and forced us to contact our family members to pay the ransom amount through PhonePay. Our family members deposited Rs 3.75 lakh through PhonePe in the phone numbers provided by the abductors,” said Naresh.
Naresh further said the kidnappers brought them to Berhampur on Tuesday evening and told them to board a Bhubaneswar-bound bus. They also threatened Naresh and Krishna to implicate them in ganja smuggling case if they complained to police.
After the two victims boarded the bus, the kidnappers left in the car of Naresh along with their mobile phones. Later, Naresh and Krishna alighted from the bus and informed Berhampur SP Dr Saravana Vivek M about the incident. On the advice of the SP, Naresh filed the FIR at Digapahandi police station on Tuesday.
The SP said police were investigating into the case and had detained some suspects for interrogation.
