Bhubaneswar: After three-month relaxation, the Odisha government has sounded for strict enforcement of the new Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 with higher penalties for traffic rules violation from December 1.

To create awareness about traffic rules and the need to abide by them, the Commissionerate Police along with Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangha, Yuva Utkal on Monday launched a sensitisation campaign, targeting two lakh students and their parents.

The campaign, which started simultaneously in schools at 10 am, will conclude at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) where 20,000 students will take a pledge to obey traffic rules.

Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi will attend the event at KISS.

In-charge DGP Dr. Satyajit Mohanty administered pledge to the students of Unit 6 Government High School here. Other schools in the Odisha capital witnessed similar pledge-taking ceremony.

“The objective of the campaign is to create awareness among students to obey traffic rules when they obtain the driving licence in future,” chairman of Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangha Basudev Bhatta told a national daily.

The students can also urge their parents to obey the traffic rules, he added.
