Nuapada: Two members of a family were killed after a speeding truck reportedly rammed into their bike in Lakhana in Odisha’s Nuapada district.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place at Daldali village under the jurisdiction of Lakhana police station in the district late on Friday. The deceased were identified as Purander Dharua and Khemasagar Dharua of Dianmunda village.
Sources said the two were proceeding from Tarbod towards Daldali when the speeding truck dashed against their two-wheeler from behind near a cotton mill on NH 353. The collision was so severe that the two were thrown off their bike and fell at a distance, dying on the spot. The driver of the truck fled the scene with the vehicle after the mishap.
Locals rushed both to the district headquarters hospital where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Nuapada SP Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said a case has been registered by Lakhana police basing on a complaint lodged by the family of the deceased. Efforts are on to trace and apprehend the accused truck driver.
