2 Persons Hacked To Death Over Old Rivalry In Odisha’s Ganjam
Berhampur: Two persons were allegedly hacked to death by a rival group over old rivalry in a village of Odisha’s Ganjam district on Monday evening.
According to sources, Mithun Bhuyan of Sunarijhola village under Kabisuryanagar police station and his brother-in-law Lipun Swain of Nuagada village under Hinjilicut police station in the district were attacked near Sunarijhola village when they were returning home.
The villagers rushed Mithun and Lipun to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kabisuryanagar. Later, they were shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur where they succumbed to their injuries.
After the family members of the deceased persons filed complaints, the police have detained four persons including Rohit Bhuyan and Janaki Bhuyan in this connection and seized a pistol and used cartridges from the spot.
The younger brother of Mithun alleged that around 15 persons armed with swords and lathi attacked Mithun and Lipun. He has identified six of the attackers.
He further said an attempt was made to attack Mithun two months ago, but he managed to escape. Mithun had lodged an FIR in the police station at the time.
The police claimed that the attack on Mithun and Lipun followed assault on Janaki and Rohit by them. Mithun and Lipun had gone to the house of Janaki with a pistol and fired three rounds in air in front of his house to threaten him and his family. After some time, Mithun and Lipun also assaulted Rohit and Janaki in which the latter sustained head injuries.
Mithun has 7 cases of murder, extortion, dacoity, rioting and attempt to murder pending against him, police said.
