Bhubaneswar: People in Odisha will soon be transported to Bangkok, though not literally, with a Sea Tunnel Aquarium with 360 degree views of exotic marine life as a special attraction at Bali Jatra this year in Cuttack city.
A private agency from Tamil Nadu has been roped in to bring its mobile tunnel aquarium to one of the largest open fairs in Asia.
According to sources, the 200-foot-long and 60-foot-wide tunnel aquarium will be placed near Akshaya Mohanty Mancha at the fairground on the banks of the Mahanadi. The agency will take around 15 to 20 days to assemble the aquarium, which will need 50,000 litres of water. The ticket price per head would be fixed at Rs 100/150.
It will take visitors on a journey to the depths of the ocean and they will get to watch arowana, sharks, gowrami and sting rays glide at this walk-through tunnel aquarium, the sources added.
The annual trade fair, commemorating the glorious past of voyages to the islands of Indonesia by Odia traders, will kick off on November 27 and continue till December 4. Traders from across the country, corporate houses and government agencies usually put up stalls at at the fair. Hundreds of food stalls also come up, serving varieties of cuisines to the people.
The state government had accorded the state festival tag to Bali Jatra a few years ago. In 2022, it also found a place in the Guinness World Records for achieving an impressive feat of origami as more than 2,100 students of 22 schools created 22,000 paper boats in 35 minutes.
