New Delhi: Actor Rajpal Yadav reportedly broke down after the Delhi High Court reserved its order in the cheque bounce case after fresh settlement efforts between the parties failed.
Despite the court’s attempts to facilitate a negotiated resolution, Rajpal chose to contest the matter instead of agreeing to a settlement.
The case was heard by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who expressed dissatisfaction over the actor’s changing stand on repayment.
The court noted inconsistencies in his submissions and questioned the delay in filing a revision petition.
The counsel for the complainant argued that Rajpal had already accepted his conviction and could not evade financial liability.
It was also submitted that despite repeated assurances, the dues remain unpaid, prompting proceedings under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
During the hearing, the complainant agreed to settle the matter for Rs 6 crore.
However, Rajpal opposed the proposal, stating he had already suffered significant financial losses and had sold multiple properties.
In an emotional statement, he told the court he was prepared to face jail again rather than agree to the terms.
The court also proposed a structured payment plan of Rs 3 crore within a fixed timeline, but no agreement could be reached.
Taking note of the prolonged proceedings, the bench cautioned against wasting judicial time and stressed the seriousness of the matter.
With differences unresolved, the court reserved its judgment.
