Bhubaneswar: Saheed Nagar Police have arrested a 21-year-old woman and six of her family members after an alleged attempt to frame a man, claiming he tried to throw acid on her after she rejected his marriage proposal.
This came a day after the woman filed a police complaint, alleging that the man arrived on a motorcycle with two companions while she was closing her tailoring shop near the Sai Temple in Saheed Nagar area and threatened to throw acid on her.
The woman further claimed that the man, who she had met through a social networking site about a year back, had been troubling her for the past three months. She also accused him of blackmailing her by circulating her morphed photographs on social media. The complainant’s mother further stated he extorted Rs 50,000 through blackmail.
Police investigation, however, revealed the woman made up the acid attack claim to frame the man, with whom she had a prior relationship before his marriage to another woman months earlier. She reportedly invited him to Saheed Nagar, where she and her family assaulted him.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the false accusation, a police officer said.
