Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough in the murder of a builder Sasmit Biswal in Bhubaneswar, the Airfield Police on Saturday arrested three persons allegedly involved in the crime.
The three have been identified as Gulu Mohanty (34), Manoj Behera alias Silu (31), and Sukant Behera (41), all residents of Pradhan Sahi under Airfield Police Station limits.
Police said the three persons had earlier been detained following a complaint lodged by Debabrata Mohanty, the younger brother of the deceased.
The complaint was filed at the Airfield Police Station on Friday. Based on it, police registered a case under Sections 100(3)(1), 100(3)(2), and 16(2) of the BNS Act as Airfield PS Case No. 105, on April 11, 2025. The FIR names seven persons as accused, of whom three have been taken into custody.
Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena told reporters that deceased Sasmit Kumar Biswal (47), a resident of Bhimpur area, was reportedly involved in a land plotting business in partnership with the accused. Preliminary investigation suggests that a dispute over the land deal led to the fatal altercation.
The DCP further informed that the post-mortem examination of the deceased was completed on Friday and a forensic team has inspected the crime scene.
“Our special investigation team is actively working to trace and apprehend the remaining accused persons. We are hopeful of making further arrests soon,” he added.
The investigation is ongoing and police officials have assured that all responsible persons will be brought to justice.
