Patna: The ambitious Ganga Vilas Cruise got stuck three days after being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi.
The luxury ship was stuck in shallow water in the Ganga on the third day of its 51-day journey in Bihar’s Chhapra, ANI reported quoting officials.
The ship was scheduled to dock for tourists to visit Chirand Saran, a renowned archaeological site. But water deficiency in the Ganga near Doriganj area of Chhapra came in the way.
A State Disaster Response Fund team reached the spot and helped the tourists reach Chirand Saran in a small boat.
Chhapra’s Circle Officer Satendra Singh said that adequate arrangements have been made for the tourists in Chirand.
“SDRF team is stationed at the ghat so that immediate action can be taken on any untoward situation. Due to less water, there is a problem in bringing the cruise to the shore. Therefore, efforts are being made to bring tourists through small boats,” he said.
The triple-deck cruise costs Rs 25,000 per day in India, and Rs 50,000 a day in Bangladesh.
Of the 51 days, the luxury ship will pass through Bangladesh for 15 days, before entering Assam through Brahmaputra river.
