3 Excise Personnel Dismissed For Facilitating Ganja Transportation In Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Excise Commissioner Narasingha Bhol has dismissed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and two constables for their alleged involvement in illegal escorting of ganja-loaded truck.
The dismissed personnel were ASI Auropalak Das, and constables Trilochan Raicheti and R Venkatesh Kumar. The action was taken against them for allegedly facilitating transportation of ganja.
The three were arrested by Pottangi police on September 18, 2022 and booked under Section 20 (b) (ii) C/ 29 of NDPS Act, 1985. Being members of the uniformed service, instead of curbing illegal narcotics business, they were involved in illegally escorting the ganja loaded truck, the Excise Commissionerate said.
The Excise Commissioner being the cadre controlling authority relating to appointment, posting, transfer, promotion including overall cadre management. “It is reasonably not practicable to hold inquiry against them, so they were dismissed from service in public interest in accordance with Rule 311 (2) (b) of Constitution of India,” the press note issued by the Commissionerate stated.
The process of dismissing/ removing corrupt/ inefficient and undesirable members of the Excise Department will continue in order to improve the efficiency of the Excise Department. Stringent action will continue to be taken against Government servants of the Department, who indulge in activities pre-judicial to public interest, the press note added.
