Rourkela: Excise Department officials seized a large quantity of ‘fake’ foreign liquor and arrested three persons in this connection in Odisha’s Rourkela city on Thursday.
As per sources, a team of the Excise Department conducted a special operation against illegal liquor trade and seized more than 180 litres of fake foreign liquor and apprehended three persons.
The accused persons had allegedly smuggled the duplicate foreign liquor from neighbouring Jharkhand with an intention of selling it in Odisha.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain if the accused persons are part of a wider network of illegal liquor racket.
The accused were transporting duplicate liquor in two cars when the Excise team chased and intercepted them, sources said.
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Akhtar, who works at the daily market, Pradeep Parida of Basanti colony, and Rajesh Dey of Sector – 7.
