Cuttack: Three persons died in Cuttack for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
The balcony of a dilapidated building, near Hadibandhu School in the city’s Buxi Bazar area, collapsed on Saturday evening, leading to the demise of the trio and injuries to two others.
The deceased, identified as Abdul Jalil (60), Abdul Zaheed (30) and Abdul Mujahid (3), were residents of a nearby slum. They were near the old building when the balcony gave way at around 5.30 pm, and trapped them under the debris.
Fire Service personnel arrived at the spot and carried out rescue operations.
A woman and another child, who sustained injuries in the mishap, were taken to the SCB Medical College & Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
According to locals, the building had been declared unsafe by authorities. But despite repeated warnings, it was neither demolished nor vacated.
As questions are being raised over enforcement and safety oversight, an investigation has been initiated.
