Dhenkanal: Three members of a family were killed and another sustained critical injury when a truck hit their bike in Kamakhyanagar area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Friday.
As per preliminary information, the mishap took place near the Malpura overbridge on National Highway 53 under the jurisdiction of Kamakhyanagar Police Station in the district.
Sources said a man, his wife and their two daughters were travelling on the bike from Bhuban area towards Kamakhyanagar when the mishap took place. While the man and his two daughters died on the spot, his wife was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition.
Locals claimed that the truck dragged the bike nearly 150 metres before stopping. The driver of the truck reportedly fled the scene with the truck after the mishap.
On being informed, a police team visited the spot, recovered the bodies, and launched an investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash.
Police have appealed to the public with any information about the truck or the accident to come forward and inform. They are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning local residents to trace the vehicle involved in the incident.
