Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown against thieves operating in Ama Buses, the Commissionerate Police nabbed seven members of an interstate mobile theft gang in Bhubaneswar.
Police said the gang members, including three women, were apprehended from Jayadev Bihar AMA BUS stand and many stolen items seized from them. The gang members belong to West Bengal and Bangladesh border area.
The arrested persons were identified as Chanda Singh (25), Sony Singh (22), Saraswati Singh (20), Kartik Singh (19), Rajendra Singh, Sakti Singh (27), Byas Singh (23),
Many stolen articles, including 50 mobile phones, three bags and cash of Rs 1400/-, were seized from the arrested persons.
On thorough interrogation it is established that the accused are member of well-organised interstate mobile and other valuables theft gang hail from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bagladesh border area.
There are group leaders and male members to support them and the lady and child are engaged to commit e crime to take advantage.
They in group enter into the busses, crowded places, market area, temples and cunningly commit theft in respect of mobile, cash and gold ornaments from the public.
They do not have any definite place of stay or address and well known as Vagabonds or Banjaras.
The male members collect the stolen articles, transport it in bus and trains and sell those out in other states and distribute the ill earned money among them.
They are professional / habitual members of theft gang and live on this type of earnings having this special Modus Operandi. They used to stay near railway stations, bus stands, open fields, near flyovers and frequently changes their place of stay.
