Bhubaneswar: Three young women died after being run over by an Ama Bus on Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway near Pipli overbridge on Saturday afternoon.
They have been idenified as Rimijhimi Priyadarshini Sahu, Elina Das, and Kajal Das.
According to sources, the accident took place when they were on their way to the pilgrim town of Puri to participate in Rath Yatra. The women were travelling on two separate two-wheelers and were hit by a motorcycle while negotiating a diversion. Following the collision, they fell off their vehicles and were run over by a Puri-bound Ama Bus.
They were rushed to Pipili community health centre but died while undergoing treatment.
Two of the deceased women were from Kendrapada district while the third was a resident of the Old Town area of Bhubaneswar:
Pipli police have seized the bodies for postmortem and launched a probe into the accident.
Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of lives, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has announced Rs 4 lakh each for next of the kin of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
