Dhenkanal: Three labourers were killed and another sustained critical injury when a dumper truck ran over them at a road construction site in Odisha’s’ Dhenkanal district on Tuesday.

As per preliminary information, the mishap took place near Rekula Satsanga Kendra under the jurisdiction of Kamakhyanagar police station in the wee hours.

The workers were engaged in road construction work when the speeding dumper truck ran over them. The workers were crushed by a road roller as they fell down after being hit by the truck.

On being informed about the mishap, Fire Service personnel rushed to the site and the trapped labourers were pulled out by cutting through the wreckage with gas cutters.

While three workers died, another sustained grievous injury. Only one of the deceased labourers has been identified as Khirod Sahu from Rekula village.

Angry over the accident, locals blocked the Kamakhyanagar-Dhenkanal road and demanded adequate compensation for the families of the deceased labourers and better working conditions.
