Berhampur: Ganjam district reported a record 732 new COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, which pushed the affected tally further to 7634 on Friday.
At a press briefing, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said that there was no reason to panic as the cases were rising due to intensive door-to-door screening. “We are hoping for the number to come down in a week or so,” he said.

In last one week, 30 RED zone villages have become GREEN, he added.
Ganjam is the worst-affected district with 37.75 per cent of the total active cases in Odisha. While 14 per cent of the total 3195 villages have been affected, the virus has spread its tentacles to 62 per cent of the 280 wards in NACs, municipality and Berhampur Municipal Corporation. The rural Ganjam seems to be fairing better than the urban areas in the fight against COVID-19.
