Bhadrak: At least 31 persons have been arrested for alleged arson and violence on Dhamra Port Company Ltd (DPCL) premises following the death of three labourers in a coal heap collapse on August 15.
Police identified those arrested as residents of Koithakola and Doshangi panchayats in the district.
Irked over the death of three labourers, a group of fellow workers vandalised the DPCL office and set the main gate on fire. Later, they also attacked the chief executive officer, Subrat Tripathy.
A day after the mishap, the DPCL authorities announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased and job for one family member. Besides, the company also assured to bear the education expenses of the children of three labourers.
