Bhubaneswar: The Comprehensive Region Urban Transport (CRUT) remains committed to ensuring highest standards of road safety, passenger security and operational discipline across its Ama Bus services in Odisha.
Several preventive mechanisms are implemented every day to ensure that public transport services operate safely and responsibly, CRUT said in a post on X.
Breath Analyser Testing
Detailing daily measures that are undertaken to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol, CRUT informed it conducts mandatory Breath Analyser Tests three times every day for bus captains at all depots. The results of these tests are also uploaded and made available through the CRUT website to ensure transparency and accountability.
Since November 2024, CRUT has conducted 4,28,427 Breath Analyser Tests across its operations till date.
The tests found 69 Bus Captains to be under the influence of alcohol prior to bus out-shedding. They were all prevented from operating buses and suspended from duty for three months by the respective operators.
A total of 26 Bus Captains were detected to be under the influence of alcohol while on duty/en route. In every such case, CRUT ensured their immediate termination from service. The respective Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) have also suspended their driving licences, reinforcing accountability.
Speed Monitoring

All CRUT buses are equipped with electronic speed governors, ensuring that vehicles cannot exceed the prescribed limits within the city. For Diesel buses, maximum speed limited is 40 Kmph, and for Electric buses, it is 35 Kmph.
Speed limit for buses operating through the NH/SH is 50 Kmph.
