New Delhi: Raghav Chadha has been a member of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) since its inception.
One of the youngest spokespersons of any political party, Chadha became the youngest Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab in 2022.
Now, Arvind Kejriwal-headed party has given Chadha, who turned 35 last month, another key responsibility — leader of the party in Rajya Sabha.
Chadha — who was suspended from Rajya Sabha for nearly three months for not seeking permission from some MPs before including them in a proposed select committee to examine the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 — will replace Sanjay Singh, PTI reported quoting sources.
Singh is currently behind bars in the Delhi liquor policy case.
Rajya Sabha secretariat confirmed that a letter has been received from AAP expressing its wish to appoint Chadha as its floor leader.
The RS Secretary General will have to formally accept the letter for implementation.
Chadha married actress Parineeti Chopra in September.
AAP, with a total of 10 MPs in the Upper House of Parliament, has the fourth largest strength in Rajya Sabha after the ruling BJP, Congress and Trinamool Congress.
