Rourkela: Police have arrested 4 persons for facilitating illegal delivery by a minor girl in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
According to sources, Sanjit Mahato of Jareikela in Rourkela city had developed physical relationship with the girl. After the girl became pregnant, he contacted Sanat Mohanty, a pharmacist in community health centre (CHC) at Bisra to terminate the pregnancy.
Sanat told him to contact a private nursing home in Rourkela. Sanjit took the girl to the nursing home and requested its manager Sanjay Panda to perform delivery of the girl or terminate the pregnancy.
Later, doctor in the nursing home, identified as Verma, performed the delivery. The girl gave birth to a baby girl. But the doctor and others told her that they had terminated her pregnancy and the doctor took the newborn to his house.
After the girl cama to know about her newborn baby being kept by the doctor, she filed a complaint at Bisra police station. The police along with a team of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) went to the house of a doctor and rescued the newborn girl. But they did not find the doctor.
Police have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding doctor and also arrested a relative of Sanjit, identified as Mahabir Mahato.
