Bhubaneswar: Three eminent persons from different sectors in Odisha were on Monday presented the prestigious Padma Shri awards from President Droupadi Murmu.
The President presented 4 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri Awards for the year 2025 at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held in Ganatantra Mandap of the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday.
Among recipients were three from Odisha — Adwaita Charan Gadanayak, Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, and Durga Charan Ranbir.
Adwaita Charan Gadanayak, a famous sculptor from Dhenkanal, was honoured for his contributions to Art, while Dr Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, former Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, has been selected for his work in Medicine.
Similarly, Durga Charan Ranbir, a distinguished figure in Odissi dance, received the award for his outstanding achievements in the field of Art.
Apart from Gadanayak, Mahapatra and Ranbir, eminent Odia writer Pratibha Satpathy has also been selected for this year’s Padma Shri award. She is slated to be conferred with the prestigious award during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II next week, sources said.
These awards are conferred in three categories: Padma Vibhushan for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of higher order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service.
The Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, many Ministers of the Union and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The Padma Awardees will pay homage at the National War Memorial on Tuesday morning. They will also visit Rashtrapati Bhawan and Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, an official press release said.
