4 Inter-State ATM Looters Arrested In Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: Three days after a gang of four inter-state ATM looters were arrested in Bhubaneswar, police nabbed another gang operating in similar manner in the district on Wednesday.

After the company managing the ATMs in the district filed a complaint at Nabarangpur Town police station about tampering with the ATM machines by the gang members on the basis of CCTV footage, the police started investigation.

Following the complaint, the police kept a close watch on the ATMs in the town. While the gang was trying to loot an ATM kiosk of State Bank of India on the day, the police arrested them.

The arrested persons are Kamal Khan, Govind Chaurasia, Ritesh Singh and Akash Singh, all belonging to Uttar Pradesh (UP). Police also seized Rs 19,000 in cash, 23 ATM cards in the name of different persons, 8 mobile phones and a car from their possession. All the four persons have been forwarded to court.

Revealing their modus operandi, police said they used to manipulate the ATM machine and prevent it from sending command to dispense the cash even after it was withdrawn. As a result, the machine showed that the transaction had failed. Later, they would file complaint with customer care service of the bank concerned and get the amount thus making a neat 100% extra money.

On Sunday, police had arrested a gang of four inter-state ATM looters including two from UP and two from West Bengal in capital city. The gang used to operate in the similar fashion as Nabarangpur gang.
