4 Members Of A Gang Arrested For Firing At BJD Leader In Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: Police have arrested 4 members of a gang for their alleged involvement in firing at a BJD leader and extortion in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.

Speaking to media persons on Thursday, Dhenkanal district SP Gyana Ranjan Mohapatra said the gang, led by Subash Khuntia had fired at BJD leader Kahnu Charan Sahu on June 14. Subash was also involved in throwing bombs at Sahu’s car in October last year. Besides, the gang attempted to kidnap the BJD leader after firing at him from near PWD guest house in December.

The SP said besides Subash, his three gang members identified as Subhransu Nayak, Lipin Rout and Anil Kumar Nayak have been arrested. They were wanted in several criminal cases in Dhenkanal and Angul districts for a long time. The police have recovered a pistol, 4 live cartridges and 4 mobile phones from their possession.

The gang was also involved in extortion from rich and affluent people of the two districts. Subash had recruited around 25 criminals to carry out the criminal operations. He was getting crores of rupees through extortion alone, the SP said adding that other members of the gang would be arrested soon.
