Anugola: Four cases of scrub typhus have been confirmed at Sanabagadari village under Khamar Community Health Centre (CHC) in Odisha’s Anugola district, prompting the authorities to step up surveillance in the area.
According to sources, blood samples of suspected patients have been collected and sent for testing. A health team will visit the village regularly for the next 15 days for treatment and awareness activities.
Scrub typhus is caused by bites from tiny tick-like insects found in areas with grass, bushes, leaves and other vegetation. It can cause fever, headache and severe body ache.
Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Anugola Dr Madan Mohan Pradhan said the situation in the village is being closely monitored after four cases Scrub typhus were confirmed.
Blood samples of the infected individuals have been collected and sent for testing. Those who test positive will be provided treatment. Medical team will regularly visit the village for 15 days to treat patients and create awareness among them, Pradhan said.
The disease is not new and can be identified through diagnostic kits, he said.
The Health Department advised the people to remain alert without panicking. Preventive medicines are also being distributed in the area.
