Berhampur: Four days after the alleged gang-rape of two minor girls in Golanthara area of Odisha’s Ganjam district, police on Saturday claimed to have arrested all the four accused persons involved in the crime.
The incident took place in the evening of June 3 at a village under the jurisdiction of Golanthara police station in the district when the two minor cousins had gone to attend a wedding function with their family members.
Police said the accused persons developed a friendly relationship with the girls and gradually won their trust before taking them to an isolated place and sexually assaulting both. The accused abandoned the girls and fled the scene after committing the crime.
After the survivors narrated their ordeal, their family members lodged a formal complaint with the police after. The Golanthara police acted swiftly and launched an investigation by forming two teams. Based on intelligence inputs and tracking, the police nabbed the accused while they were trying to flee to Visakhapatnam. They are being interrogated by the police.
As per Supreme Court’s direction, the survivors were produced before Child Welfare Committee for counselling, a senior police official said, adding that further investigation is in progress.
