Balasore: At least 40 passengers were injured after a speeding truck collided head-on with a Kolkata-bound bus on National Highway-16 in Odisha’s Balasore district on Wednesday.
The incident took place near College Square under Soro police limits in Balasore in the afternoon.
Police along with local residents rescued the passengers, who sustained injuries under the impact of the collision, and got them admitted to a nearby hospital. The truck driver, identified as Ramesh Chandra Pandey of Arrah area in Bihar, was critically injured in the accident and had to be shifted to Balasore for treatment. Gas cutter was used to rescue him from the mangled remains of the truck, sources said.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the collision.
