5 More Succumb To COVID In Odisha; Second Wave Toll Touches 6164

Bhubaneswar: The COVID toll in Odisha touched 8,040 with five more COVID patients succumbing to the deadly disease in the last 24 hours.

The deceased have been identified as:

1.A 72 years old male of Bhadrak District who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.

2.A 70 years old female of Cuttack District who was also suffering from Hypertension.

3.A 65 years old male of Kendrapada District.

4.A 70 years old male of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Cerebro Vascular Accident & Accident.

5.A 58 years old female of Nabarangapur District who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.

The state had seen seven and six deaths on Friday and Thursday when the state government announced the end of the audit of the backlog deaths, which had gone up during the peak of the pandemic.

Odisha has reported 6164 COVID deaths in the second wave against 1876 the previous year.

Around 6,000 fatalities were added in the last four months. August saw around 66 deaths a day, on an average, while it was 61 in July and 42 in June. Similarly, 2,056 fatalities were registered last month, while July saw 1,903 deaths, June (1,272) and May (737), the health department sources said.

Notably, the second wave of the pandemic has claimed the lives of 39 children and adolescents in Odisha. As many as 13 of these deaths were reported between August 10 and 31.
