5 Sunstroke Deaths Confirmed In Odisha’s Sambalpur, 11 Other Reports Awaited

Sambalpur: A total of 18 suspected sunstroke deaths were reported in Odisha’s Sambalpur during the last four days, Sambalpur Collector Akshay Sunil Agarwal said on Sunday.

Altogether 18 unnatural deaths were reported in Sambalpur between May 29 and June 1. Of these cases, five have been confirmed to be heatstroke-related, he said.

Post-mortem performed on seven cases confirmed that five persons died due to sunstroke.
Post-mortem reports of 11 other cases are awaited, he said.

The state government had on Saturday informed that 96 cases of unnatural deaths were reported in summer this year and among them nine were confirmed to have died due to sunstroke. While 6 of 42 deaths reported till May 30 were due to sunstroke, another 3 heat-related deaths were among the 54 reported in the last 48 hours, the official release said.
