Cuttack: A young girl was allegedly kidnapped by 5 youths in a car in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, the girl riding a scooty was going on Mundali-Athgarh road near Chhatabar under Athgarh police limits of the district when a youth coming on a bike hit her. The incident took place near a hotel.
As the girl fell down, the biker and four other youths coming in a car lifted the girl from the road and forcibly took her inside the car. As the girl shouted for help, the hotel owner came out and confronted the youths. But they pushed him and sped away in the car from the spot.
“I first heard the sound of the collision of two vehicles and then the girl shouting for help. As I went there and asked the youths what was the matter, the biker pushed me with his vehicle. I sustained minor injuries. But I could not stop them as they sped away in their vehicles,” said the hotel owner.
On being informed, a team from Athgarh police station went to the spot and started investigation. They also enquired about the incident from the eyewitnesses.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the scooty was registered in the name of Anup Patnaik of Dhenkanal, police sources said. But the identity of the girl and the kidnappers has not been confirmed.
