Baripada: Over 500 students of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Shyamsundarpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district took out a protest march on Saturday, alleging gross mismanagement at the residential institution.
According to sources, the students walked around 10 kilometres from Shyamsundarpur to Bangiriposi block office carrying placards in their hands, to inform the administration about various problems and irregularities in the school.
The protesting students claimed that despite repeatedly informing the school authorities about the issues, no action was taken and their complaints went unheeded. This triggered resentment among them.
The students said they will march a total of 50 kilometres to place their demands before the Block administration and the District Collector, seeking a permanent solution to their problems. The sight of students undertaking such a foot march on the main road created a sensation in the area.
Meanwhile, the administration has swung into action following the incident. Officials reportedly spoke to the protesting students and heard their grievances, sources said.
