55 New Bus Stands To Come Up In Odisha, CM Lays Foundation Stone
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to improve connectivity on road in rural areas of the state, chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday laid foundation stone of 55 bus stands in 22 districts on virtual mode.
The new bus stands will be set up at block level considering their distance from district headquarters, economic activity, places of tourist interest and existing communication facility.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the initiative in rural connectivity will speed up road communication and provide better infrastructure. Thanking the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) for the initiative, he said it is making new strides in reaching across the state and connecting people through an integration of infrastructural development and effective communication network.
He expressed happiness over OSRTC’s constant improvement in quality of services for the people, many of whom depend on buses for economic, educational as well as recreational purposes.
Minister for Commerce and Transport Padmanabha Behera said his department has been working to improve the transport scenario and provide better communication infrastructure to the people.
Chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, principal secretary, Commerce and Transport Madhu Sudan Padhi, CMD of OSRTC, MPs, MLAs, district collectors and transport officials were present at district level programmes.
Secretary to Chief Minister (5T) VK Pandian moderated the programme.
